“Why the Sparks?” Jake interrupted.
Baseball was a safer topic of conversation. Hearts couldn’t be broken unless the World Series was involved.
“Their team is always stacked with the best players, which always keeps things interesting. They have more championships than any other sports franchise in history. And let’s not forget about Jax Dalton.”
“No, I’m not talking about stats. I mean, why do you follow that team instead of the one you were raised on? Why did you quit watching Patience’s team? My team.”
Okay, turned out baseball could not be a trusted topic. At least not between them. “Because I didn’t think of you when I watched them.” After dropping that truth-bomb, she grabbed her purse and made her way past him, but not before brushing up against his side. Everything in her body became aware of the feelings she’d been having for the past week. She tingled in places he hadn’t even touched, and the feeling only intensified when he reached out and grabbed her arm before she could step away.
